Shoutout to Dr. Kristine Italia, an incredible orthopaedic surgeon from the Philippines and one of our past fellows!
Her recent study, “Clinical outcomes of arthroscopic brachial plexus neurolysis for neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome,” explores the effectiveness of this surgical intervention in patients who didn’t respond to conservative treatment following trauma-related brachial plexopathy.
Key findings at a 12-month follow-up:
- 50% reduction in pain
- Significant improvement in PROMs and range of motion
- 81% patient satisfaction
Patients with unresolved symptoms often had underlying conditions such as cervical rib, arthritis or frozen shoulder highlighting the complexity of treating this condition.
